The Issue
In Llandegfan, a picturesque village on the island of Anglesey, a homeowner was experiancing persistent drainage problems at their property. The pipework was frequently blocking, leading to concerns about long-term water damage and costly future repairs. Our team was called in to investigate and provide a lasting solution to the failing system.
The Investigation
We began with a detailed CCTV Drain Survey, which quickly identified the root of the problem. The property was fitted with pitch fibre pipes, a system commonly installed between the 1950s and 1970s. These lightweight pipes, made from wood cellulose and coal tar, had reached the end of their lifespan and were showing signs of deformation and collapse. Due to their poor condition, pipe relining was ruled out, leaving excavation and complete replacement as the only viable option.
The Solution
Our drainage specialists carried out a careful excavation across the property, which included sections under the garden, the pathway and the concrete garage floor. With multiple utility cables and pipes present, much of the work had to be completed by hand to ensure safety and avoid additional disruption. The old pitch fibre pipes were removed and replaced with durable plastic pipes designed to provide decades of reliable service. Once installed, the garage floor was reinstated with fresh concrete, and the surrounding areas were restored to a tidy finish despite challenging weather conditions.
The Result
The project was completed within three days, leaving the homeowner with a modern, long-lasting drainage system. By replacing the outdated pitch fibre pipes with robust plastic alternative, we eliminated the future risk of blockages, leaks and costly repairs. The client was extremely satisfied with both the efficiency of the work and the professionalism of the team.
